Santuario Di Santa Maria Di Lovernato

Ospitaletto

The municipality of Ospitaletto originated between the 7th and 8th centuries AD as a “hospitium”, a place where pilgrims and travelers were welcomed. Although it underwent a major transformation in the 19th century — evolving from a historic rural village into a center focused on industry, crafts, and services — Ospitaletto has retained its rustic charm and rich food and wine traditions.

WHAT TO SEE

Villa Presti – Surrounded by a lush and romantic garden, the villa is one of the most striking examples of 20th-century architecture in the Franciacorta landscape. It features a central octagonal building with a turret, flanked by two rectangular wings. The mixtilinear profile, together with the contrast between white stone and red brick, highlights the entrance, framed by an elegant three-arched portico, as well as the numerous neo-Renaissance windows.
Domenico Ghidoni Museum– Due to its historical im-portance, Villa Presti was recently acquired by the Municipality of Ospitaletto to become the home of an ambitious new project: the Domenico Ghidoni Muse-um, dedicated to the great sculptor belonging to the artistic movement of Ver-ismo. Inaugurated on September 16th, 2023, it currently houses 25 works, 13 of which come from private collections and 5 on loan from the Fondazione Brescia Musei. The exhibition is located on the first floor of the building, while the ground floor and basement are available for temporary events, including concerts, conferences, exhibitions, and educational workshops for adults and children. Not just a museum, therefore, but also a welcoming gathering place.
Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Lovernato – It represents a true pictorial documentary archive, thanks to the rich sequence of frescoes inside, which allow us to reconstruct certain historical and social dynamics of the 15th and 16th centuries. Most of the wall decoration is dedicated to the Virgin and is attributed to the Master of San Felice del Benaco (a leading figure behind numerous fresco cycles throughout the Brescia area, while the many depictions of animals such as cows and horses bear witness to a world governed by the rhythms of the countryside. Particularly noteworthy are the two lunette frescoes in the presbytery, masterpieces by the painter Vincenzo de Barberis from Brescia.
