Event Details
On Saturday, August 22nd, at 5:00 pm, at the Monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa, in Provaglio d’Iseo, a cultural meeting is scheduled entitled “Simonino da Trento: l’arte al servizio dell’intolleranza”, featuring Professor Virtus Zallot, an art historian, lecturer in Medieval Art History, author for Il Mulino and contributor to specialist publications such as «Il Giornale dell’Arte».
The meeting will centre on a discussion of the 15th- and 16th-century frescoes preserved in the churches of San Bernardo and the Monastery of San Pietro.
Through these works, the tragic story of Simone da Trento, the child who disappeared and died in 1475, will be retraced; his story was exploited to fuel a violent propaganda campaign and subsequent persecutions.
Through an analysis of iconographic details and a comparison with works preserved elsewhere, the speaker will illustrate how images were used at the time as a powerful tool for communication and for spreading messages capable of shaping collective sentiment.
Free admission.
The event is part of the Franciacorta Aperta 2026 festival.
