Event Details
On Tuesday, July, 14th at 9:15 pm, at the Madonna dell’Avello Sanctuary in Ome, the show “I racconti di Penda” is scheduled to take place as part of the Il Canto delle Cicale Festival.
A storytelling performance with live music, drawn from the tales of African oral tradition, preserved in memory and passed down through the centuries. They are brought to life on stage by the storyteller and dancer Bintou Ouattara, accompanied by the griot Souleymane Diabaté, who weaves the narrative with the warm, deep sounds of traditional African instruments.
With the ritual opening line “My grandmother’s name was Penda and she always used to tell me that…”, a journey begins through a series of tales following the adventures of Penda: an orphan who lived in the leafy crown of a magical palm tree, fell in love with a “gentleman through and through” and was saved from certain death by an eagle. A tapestry of stories which, through the power of storytelling and music, offers a worldview capable of easing anxieties, reawakening the collective consciousness and keeping alive the richness of African oral tradition.
Free admission.
In the case of bad weather, the show will take place at the Ome Sports Hall in Via Breda.
