The nearby Monte Orfano was once a place of worship for ancient Gallic settlements and, from the time of Venetian rule, Rovato became home to one of northern Italy\u2019s most important markets.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>WHAT TO SEE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitfranciacorta.info\/arte-e-cultura\/piazza-cavour\/\"><strong>Piazza Cavour<\/strong> <\/a>\u2013 Designed by Rodolfo Vantini, this is the beating heart of the city. Its elegant porticoed wings, inspired by an amphitheatre, embrace a cobbled square animated by shops, boutiques, and caf\u00e9s, perfect for enjoying an aperitif. The majestic central arch leads to the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, passing through Via Castello.<br \/>\n<strong>Town Hall<\/strong>\u2013 The Town Hall, built in stages between the 13th and 15th centuries, houses beautifully decorated rooms on the first floor, including the Piano Room and the Council Chamber. As tradition has it, part of the building was the home of the famous painter Moretto.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitfranciacorta.info\/arte-e-cultura\/castello-di-rovato\/\"><strong>Rovato&#8217;s Castle<\/strong> <\/a>\u2013 In the Middle Ages, the town of Rovato was fortified, leaving clear signs in the current historic centre and in its urban structure. The cylindrical towers of the castle still remain visible when walking along the \u201cramparts\u201d.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitfranciacorta.info\/arte-e-cultura\/santuario-di-s-stefano\/\"><strong>Sanctuary of Santo Stefano<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Nestled at the foot of Monte Orfano since the Lombard era, it was founded as a ministry to welcome wayfarers. The interior houses a precious cycle of frescoes, with vivid colours that enhance this sacred space with a vibrant, evocative atmosphere.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitfranciacorta.info\/arte-e-cultura\/convento-della-s\u2026ssima-annunciata\/\"><strong>Church and Convent of Santissima Annunciata<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Founded in 1449 on the summit of Monte Orfano, the complex dominates the moraine amphitheatre of Franciacorta. The small church is always open to visitors, while the convent, now a charming accommodation facility, opens by appointment for guided tours of the historic rooms.<\/p>\n<h3>HIGHLIGHTS<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Manzo all\u2019Olio di Rovato<\/strong> \u2013 A true taste of Franciacorta\u2019s culinary heritage, beef slowly cooked in olive oil is a traditional peasant recipe that has become an iconic local specialty. The meat is tender and flavorful, simmered with garlic and anchovies to create a rich, aromatic sauce. Best savoured in the cozy trattorias of the historic center, it is a dish that captures the heart of the region\u2019s gastronomy.<\/p>\n<h3>THINGS TO DO AND EVENTS<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Urban Trekking<\/strong> \u2013 A cultural walk that takes place once a year, in October, to raise awareness of the historical roots of the town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Vigna Storica<\/strong> \u2013 Every April, a charming retro event brings together sport, local culture, and tradition. Participants ride vintage bicycles dressed in classic woolen attire, cycling through the vineyards and scenic back roads of Franciacorta \u2014 a unique experience that celebrates both the region and its heritage.<br \/>\n<strong>Lombardia Carne<\/strong> \u2013 One of the most important livestock fairs in Northern Italy, this event celebrates the excellence of Lombard meat products and takes place 15 days before Easter, featuring events, exhibitions, and tastings for visitors of all ages.<br \/>\n<strong>Pour Parler Festival<\/strong> \u2013 A summer festival that combines culture, music and territory: meetings with authors, wine tastings, DJ sets and walks through the vineyards make each edition a unique multisensory experience.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>WALKS AND EXCURSIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Hiking on Monte Orfano<\/strong> \u2013 With its gentle, accessible slopes, Monte Orfano is ideal for easy walks with scenic views. From Rovato, you have several options: from walks to the Sanctuary of Santo Stefano, the Convent of the Santissima Annunciata and the Parish Church of San Michele, to the Big Bench with a view over the whole area. Those looking for a more active experience can follow the fitness trail through the woods. A stop at the Alpini hut, with tables and benches, is perfect before proceeding to- wards Coccaglio or heading back to the town.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>INFO SHOPPING<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The weekly market <\/strong>takes place on Mondays from 07:30 to 13:30 in Via Martinengo Cesaresco. \u201c<strong>La Soffitta in Piazza<\/strong>\u201d, a monthly vintage market for antiques, hobbies, and collectibles, is held in Piazza Cavour. During the \u201cSbarazzo di Rovato\u201d in April and September, local retailers set up stalls in the historic Piazza Cavour, the streets of the town centre, and the Foro Boario, offering their goods at heavily discounted prices.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>HOW TO GET THERE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>By train<\/strong> \u2013 Rovato can be easily reached by train, with direct connections on the Bergamo \u2013 Brescia, Verona \u2013 Brescia \u2013 Milan, and Iseo \u2013 Bornato \u2013 Rovato lines.
