They are brought to life on stage by the storyteller and dancer Bintou Ouattara, accompanied by the griot Souleymane Diabat\u00e9, who weaves the narrative with the warm, deep sounds of traditional African instruments.<\/p>\n<p>With the ritual opening line <em>\u201cMy grandmother\u2019s name was Penda and she always used to tell me that\u2026\u201d<\/em>, a journey begins through a series of tales following the adventures of Penda: an orphan who lived in the leafy crown of a magical palm tree, fell in love with a \u201cgentleman through and through\u201d and was saved from certain death by an eagle.
